I am a native English speaker, a Spanish to English interpreter and translator, and an English proofreader. My main fields of translation expertise legal and financial. After graduating from university with a B.A. in English Literary Studies, I moved to Bolivia and became an English language and literature teacher. I worked in a private English language school as both a teacher and administrator. I taught ESL, English grammar and literature, and United States History; and ran the social studies and language departments (including the English, Spanish, French, and Quechua languages).
While working in Bolivia, I met and married a wonderful Bolivian man, and I continue to live in Bolivia with him, where we have daily contact with his non-English speaking family. It’s great practice for my Spanish skills and we also enjoy raising our children in a bilingual environment.
I stopped my work with the school in 2007 to start a family, but I hate to be idle, so I began to really focus on my translation business. I later added a more philanthropic business to my activities: a small consulting agency for Bolivians who want to pursue higher studies in other countries. I have helped Bolivians to choose, apply to, and attend universities in several countries located in North America, South America, and Europe. Taking on this huge amount of research about overseas studies, in addition to my previous experience as a teacher and school administrator, has truly given me expertise in the field of education. I also gained valuable experience in translating certificates and legal immigration documents.
In the beginning stages of my translation business, I accepted work with several local clients – some of whom have become regulars – in the fields of legal, immigration, financial, certificates, energy, personal documents. While I have a somewhat varied experience base, my main fields for translating are legal, financial, educational, and certificates.
I also receive many requests in the field of English-language proofreading and style modification. Due to my university training in English Literary Studies, I am an expert in the grammar, punctuation, and most importantly, style, which goes along with writing well in English. Proofreading and making style changes comes naturally to me, and any text proofread by me will end up natural-sounding and well-written.
In July 2008, I was personally invited by the United States Embassy in Bolivia to sit for their translator exam. I was one of only two people in my group to pass the exam. By passing this exam, I became authorized to have my Spanish to English translations notarized by a U.S. Notary Public, and my name has also been placed on the Embassy´s translator list.
In 2008 I added interpretation to the services that I offer. Since beginning, I have had a wide range of experience as an interpreter, ranging from the most informal to the the most formal situations possible. I had the opportunity to work as a simultaneous conference interpreter at President Evo Morales' famous World Peoples' Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, held in Tiquipaya, Cochabamba in 2010. I also work with other organizations and individuals as an interpreter and fixer for foreigners arriving to Cochabamba.
Finally, I am also a full member of the online interpreters' translators', and proofreaders' community Proz.com.
While this site is mainly about me, I have a team of translators for big projects reaching over 10000 words a day. Please contact me for more information.
